 At Pomona Service Learning

 a) I Brayn Salazar, affirm that I completed my independent component, which represents 30 hours of work.

 b) Going to my service learnign under my supervisor Patty, I went on home visits thwo times a week and checked on the children at their homes and worked on activities with the families to get them working together to stimulate a positive enviremont at the home. The other two days I mentored two ten year old children back at Pomona Unified for two hours and prepping everyday a lesson plan that I could be more prepared doing activities and school work to promote their social development. On two Saturdays I went on special events hosted by Pomona Unified that had activities that made the child and their parents work together.

c) Working with the children at their homes and forming group activities helped me closer to one of my answers to my EQ. Which was promoting a positive enviroment for the chilld to feel safe this is crucial as the child needs to feel safe not only when in group but at home so that the progress made at the group could tranfer to the childs daily life.

Answer 3

Presentation

  • EQ: What is the most effective way to help with the development of an abused child
  • Answer: For a child to have a positive transition from therapy to a normal life it needs to be thought the child's right to safety or the emotional or physical damage it suffered, is not normal and it wasn't there fault.
  • Evidence: If a child is not taught its rights to safety it provides: 1. Repetition to its abuse as it would believe its normal 2. If it was physically abused it would think a way of showing affection or to control its partner its through physical abuse which would continue the cycle of abuse. 3. The child needs to know the steps it needs to take to prevent abuse.
  • Sources: Article : Evidence - based treatments in child abuse and neglect by Mark Chaffin . Book : Handbbok of clinical intervention in child sexual abuse by Suzzane M. Sgroir M.D. Personal Experience: Going throgh physical abuse myself I expereinced his feelings also talking with other childrren that been through abuse can relate.
